A one way cassette air conditioner discharges air in a single direction from a slim ceiling or bulkhead unit, unlike a four-way cassette that blows from all sides in a grid. It suits corridors, hotel-style rooms, narrow offices and home bulkheads where a square four-way grille will not fit or would dump air into a wall. It still needs an outdoor condenser, condensate and F-gas work. Wrong throw from a one-way cassette is a draught machine. Specify it for geometry, not because one-way sounds more advanced.
One-way versus four-way versus wall
Four-way cassettes want a reasonably square room and a grid. One-way cassettes sit at the edge of a room or in a bulkhead and throw across the space. Wall units throw from a wall. If you have a normal bedroom wall, you do not need a one-way cassette.

Hotel rooms, meeting rooms with a window-line bulkhead, shops with a perimeter ceiling drop, and some kitchen-diners where a four-way would sit over the table. Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and others offer one-way or two-way cassettes in light-commercial ranges.
A garage gym with a flat uninsulated ceiling may still be better with a high wall unit. Do not force a cassette format into a space with no void.
Installation and cost
Bulkhead joinery, lifting and pumps can exceed a wall split even when the indoor looks small. Decorative grilles are not the job. Access to the drain pump after the carpenter has left is the job.
Compare a one-way cassette against a wall unit and a four-way on the same room. The cheapest indoor that meets throw and access is the adult choice.
Specify without format snobbery
Send a ceiling plan. Ask each installer to recommend format with a reason. If they only sell four-way cassettes, they may force the wrong product.
